My professional endeavors involve maintaining my nursing license while working in the software industry as a Business Analyst at MatrixCare for one of our Clinical application, used in long term Healthcare by hundreds of residential/skilled nursing communities nationwide. I chose Toastmasters for its history of supporting others and fostering an environment of positive examples from a diverse organization of members from all walks of life, at all sides of the living spectrum. Speaking still makes me anxious, but my journey is only beginning!

Gene O’Brien has been a licensed General Contractor in Florida for over 3 decades. He is the Acting Vice President of G. O’Brien Construction, Inc., where he leads a team of highly skilled tradesmen in high-rise construction. Fun fact about Gene is that he was a professional Jockey for the New York Racing Association, riding thoroughbred race horses throughout the United States and Canada in his early twenties. Originally from Queens, New York, he still cheers for the NY Mets baseball team with hopes of winning a World Series in the near future. He currently resides in his 2nd hometown of Coral Springs, Florida, where he and his wife, Aileen, enjoy biking, going to the beach, and a variety of outdoor activities. Gene and Aileen have 2 adult children who are currently in college and working toward their goals. Gene is excited to be part of Toastmasters, which he considers a valuable resource for improving his overall personal skills.

A little history…I extended my education and experience from nursing to include real estate, banking, securities, insurance (life, annuities, health,) and telecommunications.

In the 1990s, Richard Cherry, my late husband and business partner, and I invented, patented and operated the original virtual call center technology and business method at Willow CSN. This earned us a Smithsonian Computerworld Award and President’s Task Force Award.

We sold Willow CSN in 2005. It’s now providing employment for over 25 thousand home-based contractor customer service agents in the U.S., Canada and the U.K.

I launched my Life and Business Coaching practice as well as public speaking in 2024 to help identify and support my clients’ vision and growth strategies for their business and personal life.

I’m a published author and have worked and lived in the USA and Canada. Currently, I live in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

Outside of work, I’m an avid walker, swimmer, bicyclist, tennis player, paddleboarder and practice jiu-jitsu.

Since I first served as Club President in 2012, I’ve been an area director, district social media director, and founding President of Online Presenters Toastmasters. I also run the WordPress for Toastmasters project, based on software originally developed for use at Club Awesome. Professionally, I am a writer and editor who spent years working for technology publications including InformationWeek, Baseline Magazine, and Internet World. I am the author of Social Collaboration for Dummies and have given keynote presentations at technology conferences in Berlin, Lisbon, and Stockholm. I consult on editorial and digital projects through Carr Communications Inc. In my day job, I’m an analyst for the digital metrics company Similarweb.
