On Friday, we’ll be celebrating the value of the hybrid meeting format that has become a Club Awesome specialty to skills you can bring into the workplace, where business meetings often mix online and in-person attendance. Sign up at clubawesome.org to get the Zoom link and directions to our in-person meetings in Coral Springs.
Here’s the announcement as we shared it with local media. See the recent Coral Springs Talk article, Toastmasters “Club Awesome” in Coral Springs Tackles Hybrid Meeting Challenges and Invites the Public to Join.
Learn Better Presentation Skills for Hybrid In-Person/Online Meetings
CORAL SPRINGS, Florida — If you’ve attended work or professional meetings conducted in a hybrid format — with some people online and others in person — you’ve probably experienced bad ones, plagued by poor preparation and technical glitches. You can learning how to improve the meetings you run in the new world of work through Toastmasters, the public speaking and professional development organization, and particularly at Club Awesome (www.clubawesome.org).
A Coral Springs institution since 1974, Club Awesome was forced online during the pandemic and more recently has embraced a hybrid format, with weekly meetings, Fridays 7 am to 8:30. Guests are always welcome: register at www.clubawesome.org to get both a Zoom link and directions to our in-person meeting location at the Panthers Ice Den in Coral Springs. Friday May 26 is the club’s monthly breakfast meeting, free and open to the public.
Club Awesome decided to make a serious commitment to the hybrid format as a way of retaining members attracted from outside the local area, as well as some who moved away or simply found online attendance more convenient. But like a lot of businesses that have tried to get at least some of their workers back in the office, our club leaders also wanted to retain the value of speaking to a group of people in person rather than only on screen.
“We’ve been fortunate to attract members and guests from as far away as China and Australia, but we also remain committed to serving our local South Florida community,” Club Awesome President Edgar Macero said.

The May 26 meeting will include a speech on online and hybrid presentation style by David F. Carr, recipient of the Distinguished Toastmasters award and a past club president. Carr is also the founder of Online Presenters Toastmasters, which was created as an online club where members can practice skills for delivering webinars and online events of all sorts. Over the past few years, he has been one of the organizers of a conference series featuring online speaking experts, including multiple Toastmasters World Champions of Public Speaking. Carr is the author of the book Social Collaboration for Dummies and has studied the evolution of the digital workplace.
Paolo Barone, an importer of men’s custom-tailored suits who splits his time between Miami and Italy, joined the club as an online attendee but recently has made an effort to attend in person when he is in town. As a serious competitor in public speaking competitions, he enjoys the opportunity to speak to a variety of audiences online – but also says nothing replaces the energy that comes from speaking on stage.
The best way to appreciate what Club Awesome Toastmasters can offer is to visit — in person or online — with registration at clubawesome.org.
